Ernest Gellner
Ernest Andre Gellner (ing. Ernest André Gellner; 9 dekabr 1925[1][2][…], Paris[3] və ya Monruj[4] – 5 noyabr 1995[1][2][…], Praqa[5][6]) — Britaniya və Çexiya filosofu, sosial antropoloqu. "The Daily Telegraph" tərəfindən dünyasını dəyişdiyi zaman dünyanın ən güclü ziyalılarından biri, "The Independent" tərəfindən isə "tənqidi rasionalizm üçün birnəfərlik səlibçi" adlandırılmışdır.[7]

Onun ilk kitabı olan "Sözlər və şeylər" (1959) "The Times"da onun dil fəlsəfəsinə hücumu ilə əlaqədar məktublar səhifəsində bir ay davam edən yazışmalara səbəb olmuşdur. 22 il London İqtisadiyyat Məktəbində fəlsəfə, məntiq və elmi metod professoru kimi, səkkiz il Kembric Universitetində Vilyam Vayz sosial antropologiya professoru və Praqada milliyətçiliyin tədqiqi üzrə yeni mərkəzin rəhbəri olmuşdur. Gellner bütün yazılarında, tədrisində və siyasi fəallığında qapalı düşüncə sistemləri kimi gördükləri şeylərə, xüsusən də kommunizmə, psixoanalizə, relyativizmə və azad bazar diktaturasına qarşı mübarizə aparmışdır. Sosial düşüncədəki digər məsələlərlə yanaşı, modernləşmə nəzəriyyəsi və milliyətçilik onun mərkəzi mövzularından ikisi idi. O, milliyətçilik məsələsi üzrə aparıcı nəzəriyyəçilərdən sayılır.[8]
