Leopold fon Ranke
Leopold fon Ranke (alm. Leopold von Ranke; 21 dekabr 1795[1][2][…] və ya 20 dekabr 1795[3] – 23 may 1886[1][4][…], Berlin[6][7]) alman tarixçi və mənbələrə əsaslanan müasir tarix elminin banisi[8][9] . Karolin Hofferliyə görə, "Ranke 19-cu əsrin sonlarında Avropa və ABŞ-da yaranan tarixi peşəni formalaşdıran ən mühüm tarixçi olmuşdur". O, seminarların tədrisi metodunu öz dərsində tətbiq edə bilmiş, arxiv araşdırmalarına, tarixi sənədlərin təhlilinə diqqət yetirmişdir[10] . Göttingen Tarix Məktəbinin metodlarına əsaslanaraq o, ilk dəfə tarixi seminar təşkil etmişdir[11] . Ranke ilkin mənbələrə etibarlılıq (empirizm), narrativ tarixə və xüsusilə beynəlxalq siyasətə (Außenpolitik) vurğu kimi fikirləri təqdim edərək, sonrakı tarixi əsərlərin çoxu üçün standartları müəyyən etmişdir. Rankenin Qərb tarixşünaslığına da böyük təsiri olmuşdur. O, 1865-ci ildə adına “fon” əlavə edilməklə zadəganlığa layiq görülüb.
