There are a number of gunboatsin the harbor, the officers of which attended the din-ner; these, with the usual army officers, English andChinese Consuls, the Commission and staff, and theFilipino gente fina, made quite a cosmopolitan show-ing. The banquet was one of the most pretentiousaffairs we have been up against.
