Sentyabr ayında ABŞ ordusunun da qatıldığı bir hərəkat planlaşdırılmışdı. Bu plana görə, Antanta orduları dörd qoldan hücuma keçərək alman cəbhəsinin geri bağlantısını kəsəcəkdi. Müxtəlif səbəblərdən bu məqsədinə çatmamışolmasına qarşı hərəkat Alman Baş Qərargahında döyüşün gələcəyi ilə bağlı ümumi bir ümidsizlik yaratmışdır.
