Roman, [[kafedral]]ın sökülməməsi üçün, kampaniya başladılmasına səbəb olub və [[kafedral]]ın sökülməsi planını alt-üst edib. Roman 1831-ci ildə çap edildikdən sonra gözlənilən nəticəni verib və kafedral layiq olduğu dəyəri görüb. Kitab işıq üzü görəndən 10 il sonra, 1841-ci ildə Fransa, Eugène Viollet-le-Duc və Jean-Baptiste Lassus adlı iki memara Notre-Dame kilsəsinin bərpasını tapşırıb. Görülən işlər siyahısına daş üzlüyüynün təzələnməsi, heykəllərin bərpası, binanın içərisində köməkçi otaqların bərpası, pəncərə şüşələrinin təzələnməsi, binanın arxitekturasına qarqoylların əlavə edilməsi əlavə olunub.
